Pattaya —
A young Thai woman sadly died in Pattaya after driving her motorcycle the wrong way and colliding with a pickup truck.
The tragic accident occurred at 5:00 AM today, August 11th, 2024. The Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Unit was alerted to a severe accident involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle on Sukhumvit Road, just before the South Pattaya traffic light in Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province. The rescue team and The Pattaya News immediately responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, the rescue team found Ms. Chonthita Kulkantang, 28, lying unconscious in a pool of blood on the road with severe injuries. The rescue team provided initial first aid and performed CPR to try to save her life before transporting her to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries shortly afterward.
At the scene, authorities found Ms. Chonthita’s pink Honda Scoopy-i motorcycle. The motorcycle had been hit by a black Mitsubishi Titan pickup truck, which was severely damaged in the front. The uninjured truck driver, Mr. Pairoj Pholkonkaen, 45, was waiting at the scene and provided a statement to the police.
According to Mr. Pairoj, he was driving along Sukhumvit Road towards South Pattaya. He then failed to notice Ms. Chonthita, who was driving the wrong way, and crashed head-on with her.
Ms. Jaruwan Mahaniyom, 40, a street cleaner who witnessed the accident, stated that she saw the motorcycle rider speeding from South Pattaya and suddenly swerving left into oncoming traffic, where she was struck by the pickup truck driver.
Pattaya Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to determine the exact cause of the accident and file any applicable legal charges.
