Huai Yai– On August 17th, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., the villagers of Village No. 11, Huai Yai Subdistrict, Banglamung District, made a heartfelt appeal to the media, urging relevant agencies to address the dire condition of their local road and street lights. The villagers, led by Mr. Nimit Maitriwong and Mr. Samyot Nanaprasit, also known as Lawyer Laem, highlighted the urgent need for repairs to ensure the safety of the community.
The affected area, adjacent to Samnak Thon Subdistrict, Ban Chang District, Rayong Province, features a gravel road along Khlong Phai that has been in disrepair for 2-3 years. This 1.5-kilometer stretch is riddled with potholes, causing significant inconvenience for residents, especially parents who use the road to transport their children to school and commute to work.
Despite repeated requests for maintenance, Huai Yai Municipality has stated that the road falls under military jurisdiction and cannot be repaired. In response, villagers have taken matters into their own hands, using their labor to fill potholes with soil. However, they fear that the upcoming rainy season will exacerbate the damage, posing a severe risk to road users, particularly motorcyclists.
Adding to their woes, the public street lights have been non-functional for over a year, with no agency stepping forward to address the issue. The villagers are now calling on the relevant authorities to repair both the road and the street lights to prevent further danger to lives and property.
Should their pleas go unanswered, the villagers plan to escalate their concerns to the Banglamung District Office, seeking intervention and justice from the District Chief.
