Mr. Prawet Chanthong was arrested on Thursday in connection with the fatal shooting of another man in Pattaya. He tearfully provided his account of the incident to police, claiming self-defense after experiencing alleged harassment and assault.

Now for our update:
During a crime reenactment conducted on February 1st, Mr. Prawet, who was suspected of murdering his old friend, Mr. Panya Khayanngan, earlier this week stated that he encountered the victim at the traffic intersection in North Pattaya on January 31st.
He claimed that the victim had previously threatened him with violence, stating he would be shot wherever the victim found him. This, coupled with their year-long personal conflict, fueled Mr. Prawet to shoot the victim to protect himself, according to his claims.
Mr. Prawet alleged that he borrowed a firearm from a friend for self-protection after allegedly being threatened by the victim. He claimed that he used the weapon only after fearing for his safety during the chance encounter with the victim. He subsequently disposed of the firearm near an abandoned warehouse.
A police investigation revealed the victim had a history of legal troubles, including four attempted murder cases with three convictions and one pending case. However, no such history exists for Mr. Prawet.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Thawatchai Jindakuansanong, Commander of the Chonburi Provincial Police, stated that arresting officers used pressure tactics to capture Mr. Prawet who fled into a cassava plantation. The investigation is ongoing to determine the true cause of the conflict and verify the suspect’s claims.
