During most people’s lifetimes, there comes a stage where they consider changing careers. This might be because they have worked in the same position since they were young, or it could be down to the simple fact, career progression doesn’t seem as realistic as they thought when starting their chosen career.
Whatever the reasons, know it’s always possible to retrain and change careers – you could become a personal trainer, a teacher, a marketing executive or a nurse – there are plenty of nursing agency jobs for travel nurses.
Below we look into three simple ways to retrain.
Sign up for an online course
In today’s world, learning new skills has never been easier thanks to the internet. With a few clicks of a button, you can be browsing a whole range of online courses – anything from learning to be a web developer to becoming an expert graphic designer.
These courses are easy to sign up for and start instantly – in 10 minutes time you can be signed up for one and begin your journey to retraining. The price of online courses varies depending on the length of them, how specialized they are and whether they include professional qualifications. If you are lucky some are free for you to try out before fully signing up.
Volunteer in your free time
Volunteering is a great way to gain experience whilst discovering if you like the career you are thinking of retraining into – sometimes the idea of an industry isn’t as glamorous as you may think when you are actually doing it. By volunteering you will get hands-on experience as well as put yourself into a good position should a vacancy come up whilst you are helping out.
Try to reach out to a few companies and see if you can help out in the evening or on the weekend. In some cases, if you do well when volunteering, the company will give you a bonus every now and then if they are doing well financially and hitting targets. When volunteering, remember the reasons why you are doing it. A new career will hopefully help you be financially free.
Consider Open University
Some industries require you to have a certain level of education. Particular jobs may require specialist skills such as doctors, accountants and teachers etc. In order to be considered for these roles you may need to sign up for higher levels of education to help you broaden your knowledge.
Open university is a great way to do this. You can sign up for a university course and study it in your own time, before or after work and on the weekends. The length of these courses varies depending on the subjects you want to study, however, in most cases, it will take a few years.
