Pattaya —
Banglamung district and Pattaya City recently met with three police stations to discuss solutions for traffic congestion during rush hours and public holidays.
At the Pattaya City Hall, Mr. Weekit Manarojkit, the Banglamung District Chief, presided over a meeting to discuss strategies for easing traffic congestion in Pattaya City and Banglamung District during rush hours and public holidays.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Poramase Ngampiches, the Mayor of Pattaya, along with Pol. Col. Navin Teerawit, Chief of Pattaya Police Station, Pol. Col. Tawee Kutthalaeng, Chief of Nongprue Police Station, and traffic police officers from Pattaya Police Station, Banglamung Police Station, and Nongprue Police Station.
During the meeting, the officers discussed ways to address traffic issues, with the goal to ease the burden on police officers who may be understaffed compared to the growing number of vehicles in the city. They also discussed training volunteer officers and municipal officers on how to manage traffic to assist traffic officers during rush hours.
According to Mr. Weekit, the Banglamung District Chief, the meeting concluded on three strategies:
- The district, police officers, Pattaya City, and Nongprue Municipality will join hands in deploying traffic police, municipal officers, traffic volunteers, and police officers at key intersections in Pattaya and Nongprue during rush hours when traffic is heaviest to alleviate traffic.
- The officials will strictly enforce traffic laws against vehicles parked in no-parking zones to free up traffic lanes and reduce congestion.
- For public transportation vehicles, particularly the songthaews, there will potentially be adjustment of their routes. Additionally, stricter enforcement will be applied to those who park in prohibited areas. Currently, Mr. Weekit noted many songthaews slow down to pick up passengers, especially along Beach Road, and causes congestion. Mr. Weekit said he will hold further meetings with songthaew operators to discuss and find solutions to this problem.
