A Mercedes Benz crashed and led to a chain collision on a motorway in Chonburi, resulting in the death of a Japanese man and severe injuries to two Thai people.
On August 24th, 2024, the Khao Din Highway Patrol Station received a report of an accident involving a Mercedes Benz colliding with a van on the motorway at kilometer marker 65+900, heading towards Bangkok, in the Don Hua Lo sub-district, Mueang district, Chonburi province. Officers and rescue teams rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival, authorities found a green Mercedes Benz overturned with its wheels facing upwards. The driver, Mr. Naphoo, 38, was severely injured and had already been transported to a nearby hospital.
Close by, a severely damaged silver Toyota sedan was discovered, with its driver, Mr. Nopachai, 41, was also seriously injured and sent to the hospital. Tragically, Mr. Shintaro, a 50-year-old Japanese national and a factory owner in Rayong province, was found deceased in the rear passenger seat of the Toyota sedan.
The black van involved in the accident had sustained damage to its rear. The van’s driver, Mr. Wancharoen, 30, recounted that he was driving his family back from Bang Saen Beach in the left lane, heading towards Bangkok, when the Mercedes Benz suddenly crashed into the rear of his vehicle. The impact caused the Mercedes to lose control, hit a barrier, and overturn. The Toyota sedan then collided with the overturned Mercedes, leading to the fatal incident.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the scene to determine the exact cause of the accident.
