Phuket –
In Phuket, the Thai police are investigating vehicle rental businesses in the Thalang district for potential illegal practices. The inquiry, led by Region 8 Police Commander Lieutenant Colonel Suraphong Thanomjit, focuses on the suspicion that foreign business owners might be using Thai citizens as stand-ins to meet legal requirements.
On March 19th, officials examined several vehicle rental operations in Thalang’s Sri Soonthorn sub-district, where it’s believed that foreigners, posing as tourists, have established businesses with Thai nationals as nominal shareholders. These businesses are thought to have later transferred shares to foreign owners and employed non-Thai workers illegally.
The scope of the businesses under scrutiny includes vehicle and long-term property rentals, as well as ownership of vehicles and houses. It’s also alleged that these foreign entrepreneurs have encouraged friends and family to migrate to Thailand for the purpose of expanding their business ventures.
