Pattaya —
A former welder turned illegal gun maker was arrested in Pattaya after attempting to sell homemade firearms.
On September 14th, 2024, Nongprue police arrested 38-year-old Mr. Boonmee S. on charges of allegedly illegally selling firearms and gun parts. The arrest was carried out around 9:35 PM at the entrance of Soi Phatthana Kan 2/1, Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province.
The arrest followed a tip-off from concerned citizens that Mr. Boonmee was manufacturing and selling illegal firearms to young people in Pattaya. Authorities planned a sting operation and arranged to purchase a homemade firearm from Mr. Boonmee for 2,000 baht. When the suspect arrived to deliver the gun, police officers identified themselves and arrested him, seizing one 11mm firearm and two rounds of ammunition.
Police went to search Mr. Boonmee’s residence and found several firearm parts, ammunition, and a homemade sound suppressor. The suspect reportedly confessed that he had been making guns as a hobby after losing his job as a welder. He learned how to make guns from the internet and sold the firearms only to acquaintances and did not consider it his main occupation. However, he admitted he made a profit of 500-1,000 baht per gun.
Mr. Boonmee was taken to Nongprue Police Station for further investigation and legal action.
